I remember the night it happened vividly. I was hanging out with my best friend, and we were getting into one of our patented debates about whether Star Wars is sci-fi or fantasy, or the validity of Tarantino’s excessive “borrowing” from 19070s Asian cinema. My buddy was a fellow cinephile who knew that filmmaking was a passion of mine as well. At the time, I was a Business Development Manager at Intuit.

He turns to me and asks, “So, Ron. What do you want to do with your life?” I replied, “Well, eventually I would love to be able to become a director and make my own movie,” to which he replied, “Cool, cool. So how are you going to do that at Intuit?”

It was an eye-opening experience that changed the direction of my life. A few months later, I quit my job and started my video agency. The rest, as they say, is history.

From mom and pop videographer to corporate brand storyteller

I’ve come a long way in that time and have had the opportunity to shoot and produce video campaigns for the likes of Apple, Adobe, Intuit, and Nielsen. You can see some of my directorial filmography here.

In the later years of my video career, I’ve been more passionate about being a branding storyteller and executive producer. Rather than being on set and directing, I found a passion for working with brands to develop groundbreaking, cutting-edge films and series that build affinity or drive pipeline.

In my role as executive producer or showrunner, I’ve leveraged the strong network of talented filmmakers I’ve built over the years, along with my experience as a brand marketer, to craft films and documentaries that push the boundaries of what’s possible in corporate video storytelling.

Spiraling Up—DocuSeries for HubSpot & LinkedIn

In my role as lead brand and content strategist for HubSpot for Startups, I conceived, managed, and executive-produced the documentary film series “Spiraling Up: The Journey to Become a Unicorn.” Over three short seasons, this series told the stories of aspiring startup founders seeking to achieve the coveted status of “unicorn”—a private company valued at $1 billion or more.

Made in Frame: BLOCK & TACKLE

BLOCK & TACKLE is a multi-award-winning, NYC-based motion design and creative studio with such clients as FX, ESPN+, and The History Channel. I conceived, produced, and edited this “pilot” episode of “Made in Frame Films,” where they share insights into their work process and the trends they’re seeing in the industry.

Replit’s Race to Revenue

The Race to Revenue Campaign was Replit’s version of a startups program. From a pool of over a thousand applicants, twenty entrepreneurs were chosen to start a business from scratch on Replit and, over a period of eight weeks, start generating revenue. They would be mentored and have the opportunity to win a grand prize at the end of eight weeks.

I knew a program like this was too good not to share with the world, so I pitched the idea of creating a film series to document the whole process from beginning to end, and that’s how this eight-part series began. I played a key role in identifying and selecting the agency and served as an executive producer, providing creative and editorial feedback throughout the process.
